BG - Eu acho que o entusiasmo dos pesquisadores foi muito grande. Porque em um determinado momento você tinha preconceitos das pessoas lá fora e de algumas pessoas do próprio laboratório. Tinham medo de trabalhar com algo desconhecido. Na realidade, não precisávamos ser visionários para perceber que o HIV/AIDS se tornaria uma pandemia, envolvendo todos os paises do mundo. Sabíamos que o HIV iria se disseminar rapidamente. A rápida resposta do Brasil em relação ao controle do HIV/AIDS deveu-se ao comprometimento institucional dos servidores da Fiocruz. A instituição está acima dos indivíduos, o que possibilita enfrentar essas terríveis epidemias. Eu acho que isso é uma cosia espetacular, que contribui para a perenização desta instituição centenária, vanguarda na luta para a melhoria da saúde da população nacional.
