Peace & Conflict   Opinions

Africa, known for its natural beauties and also known for its warfares, coups and poverty, is one of the greatest problem to be tackled in the coming years. Many have tried to establish lasting peace and failed. Can there be lasting peace in Africa?

The problem that Africans face today started during the Colonial era. When a colonizing country conquered an area, it often groups the many tribes that occupy the area into one area. Some of the tribes have feuded for many years, and they were grouped toghether, which later led to them fighting each other after the area gained independence..

Also, the government did not train the locals to rule themselves, resulting in ineffective governance and oppression. The above are the main reason why the continent is in turmoil today. Tribal warfares, warfares for personal gains and ineffective government led to the Africa today.

The situation today can only be cured by an effective government that can represent all the people living in the area and can resolve inter-tribal conflicts.

Such a task is monumental, considering the history of governments in Africa, bur humans tend to become smarter after each experience. I am ure that Africans, after so many experiences, can learn from it and make their country more effective in ruling themselves. The people of Africa, so long suffered in warfare, ineffective government and sometimes oppression, can, one day, rule themselves in a proper manner and bring peace and prosperity to this war-torn continent.

Africa being the 2nd largest continent after Asia, with dense population, ofcourse is expected to be faced with numerous challenges, like conflicts, day in day out. The extreme diverse makeup of this continent in terms of language, origin, tribe, beliefs, cultures, philosophies, personal pursuits and so on, makes it nearly impossible for peace to reign. But then, a reasonable height of peace, if not completely, is attainable not only in Africa but in every society, if we can put aside our differences. It does not mean discarding entirely one's beliefs, culture, personal pursuits, ambitions, etc., but a bit compromise/ adjustment/amendment of these things at some point for the benefits of mankind in general because if we always cling to our personal policies, demands, gains, and nobody adjusts, there will be no room for peace not even a shred of it. Its a task for every individual, both the leaders and the Led.. Personally, i believe that achieving lasting peace in Africa comes with the prize of "ADJUSTMENTS and COMPROMISE", for the good of mankind... "life is often said isn't about your policy all the time, so you better rearrange your philosophy and be good to your fellow man"
