DIALOGUE WITH GOD
Hearing His Voice and letting your voice be heard!
Psalm 29:3-4...The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of Glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful; the Voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
Isaiah 1:18a...Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord.
Not every believer in Christ has the same experience in hearing from the Lord. In general, an individual is so much connected with and depending on one's senses (hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste) for detection, transduction and transmission of information, that it is difficult to understand that God is not limited to our senses to convey messages to His children.
Although there are many scriptures related to this subject only the most familiar ones have been used.
Genesis 3:9-19... The Lord called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?"
There was a dialogue between God and Adam.
Genesis 6:13... And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, the the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth".
In Genesis 37... The Lord spoke to Joseph through various dreams.
In Exodus 3...Moses heard the voice of the Lord coming from the midst of the burning bush.
In 1 Samuel 3:9-14... while Samuel laid down the Lord called: "Samuel !...Samuel ! and the Lord spoke further to him.
2 Samuel 2:1... David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?" And the Lord said to him, "Go up." David said, "Where shall I go up? And He said, "To Hebron."
The Lord has spoken and still speaks to His children through an audible voice, dreams, visions, inner voice and His Word, for instance.
We may not hear His Voice in the same manner as others, but if we need to hear from Him He will certainly speak to us in one or other way.
In order to hear His Voice we have to walk close to Him. When you are walking with a friend you normally don't keep 200 feet distance between each other, it is too uncomfortable to communicate and it does not really look like you are friends.
Friends stay close together and in general talk while they walk.
We show our committment to Him, by walking in obedience and in agreement to His Word. We have to be fine tuned in order to communicate with Him and to hear His Voice.
The Lord speaks through His Word, by His promises and His warnings. We do not have to sit in a corner waiting for His answer. When we pray, we have faith that what we ask, we will receive, Luke 11:9 and Mark 11:24.
Thus, we step in the direction of our prayer. When we need to hear from God, we may ask also for a conformation. Sometimes we know in our heart what the answer is and when we receive an unexpected phone call or letter from a friend stating the same thing, that is a conformation. Of course, answers contradicting the Bible are not of the Lord.
The Bible says in Proverbs 3:6... In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
We have to act upon our faith, walk forwards and do what you must do or what you believe is right. He will watch over you and prevent you from hurts. We should ask and pray, believing that the Lord is with us and walks beside us. No good friend will allow you to fall down a cliff if he can prevent it!
At one time, my husband and I wanted to buy this house, but it was more than we could afford. I went down with the Real Estate agent to check it out. I really liked it and there was lots of room for the children to play.
A few days went by and I felt in my spirit that we should make an offer. So, I prayed about it and came to a figure ($$) which I then wrote down on a piece of paper. When my husband came home from work, he said to me: We should make an offer on that house, don't you think so?
Yes, I replied, how much would you offer? He paused, then he said....so much$$. I looked at him and grabbed the piece of paper out of my pocket and gave it to him. He looked at the paper, then at me.....it was the same amount of $$ as I had written down on this paper.
We presented this offer, which was 1/3 less than the asking price. We got the house!! Another time we prayed about something and found a scripture to support our prayer and we obtained the answer by faith on that scripture.
Psalm 119:58...I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; be merciful to me according to Your Word.
In Genesis 18:20-33... The Lord spoke to Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah.
Abraham reasoned with the Lord and said, Would You destroy the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You destroy the place and not spare it for fifty righteous that were in it?....
verse 26..So the Lord said:" If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. Abraham dares even to ask the Lord for more.....Suppose there were five less than fifty righteous......The Lord said: If I find thee forty-five, I will not destroy it.
