A FIGHT WITH SLEEP Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Dio nguavese, Nigeria Nov 15, 2006

I never denied you any hour,
So i never knew your power,
I thought you never had the strength,
Until i fought with you at length.

After the day's work drew nigh,
I denied you at night,
And the next day,
This was all i could say.

You came and grabbed me,
And you pushed me,
Though i tried to forget you,
You made me think of you.

You made me stagger,
Though i was eager,
Never to fall
For your call.

You persisted,
I resisted,
I tried to read,
But you took the lead.

I tried to stop you with ice,
You forced me to close my eyes,
I tried to chase you with a rod
You made me nod.

I tried to keep my attention'
You made me loose concentration.
And when i could no more endure,
I gave in to your lure.

You took me,
And pushed me.
to my bed you made me run,
Alas! You won.
