Christmas - a time for family unions? for the birthday celebration? or a time for reflection?
For me and many 11th and 13th graders in Hong Kong, it's simply the time to get into our "examination mode" and prepare for the public exams which may change our life forever.
Nobody cares about your usual grades in school. They don't count your project scores. They never look at your extra-curricular activities. No matter how much you've contributed to your society, they never want to know.
Only your grades matter!
You never get to be creative. Nobody is going to appreciate your effort. And you'll be labelled as a loser if you score lowly. I wonder what our education system is trying to teach us!

If you're experiencing a similar problem, here's a quote from a fellow schoolmate of mine which might help:
By Beatrice Liu, at 11:33 PM on 7th March, 2002.
Getting an A is not worth losing a good relationship with God or spending less time praying, reading the Bible and meditating on God's Word.
Getting an A is not worth getting into a fight with a family member, or venting out my frustration on them.
Getting an A is not worth giving up time with my friends or listening to them, or being kind to them, or caring about them.
Getting an A is not worth losing peace of mind and the enjoyment of life and the beauty of the world around me. It is not worth forgoing happiness, rest and relaxation.
Getting an A is not worth sleepless nights, tears, a restless mind, and a troubled heart, having anxious meals, bad skin, puffy eyes, headaches or colds.
It's simply not worth it.
Because life is not about getting A's and getting 10A's does not mean that I am smart, competent, the top of the world. It just means that I have some skill in tackling this education system.
Because not getting 10A's does not mean that I am any less valuable in the eyes of God, or that I am worth less love from people. It does not mean I am not smart enough, or not talented enough, because I know that God has showered me with gifts that should shine above public exams. I know that I can achieve things that are more than good-looking grades on a certificate ¡V things that are more important that personal glory and short-lived fame. Things that last in this world, and things that will affect the world, not the way that the world looks at me.
Because life is about loving God and loving others, and because family and friends are the most important people in my life.
Because life should not be spent trying to put up with something for a while so that I can enjoy life later. Because now is all the time I've got to work with, and I should be doing what's truly important to me and close to my heart. Life should be about bringing peace, joy, love and hope to others and myself. The beauty of nature and of people should be admired here and now when it is given to me, not put aside for later appreciation.
And there is so, so, so much more to life, than just getting 10A's in the CE (Certificate of Examination).
