Cancer- how do you find the words to say goodbye? Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

How has it come to be
that near or far
you are a big part of me?

At your best you are love (able)
and at your worst- an imperfect man
whom I've tried my whole life
to understand
still
I'm your biggest fan

Yet still
shocked
I can't deny
I am weeping
my heart continually breaks
so soon after the worst has passed
so soon into knowing your better self
so short a time has been spent in reconciliation
I forgive you
and I have chose to forget (or let go of)
the pain you've caused

and now
just as I'm getting to know you
just after meeting
the good man you were meant to be
I am to say goodbye?
I am to get "over" it
and accept the end?
it can't be easy
it isn't
but each day
I will try not to pretend that I'm fine
in this way
maybe
someday
I'll be alright!
