AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL CONCERNED PEOPLE

The next 10 years will determine whether the human race is going to survive on this planet for much longer. It is up to the politicians in all countries to implement survival strategies immediately. Forget about growth, economics, work relationships, health education , trade, the war on terror, defense, transport, gross national product, immigration etc . These are all meaningless when our very existence is at stake. We should be engaged in a war against planetary destruction. If we don’t succeed over the next 10 years in dramatically reducing green-house gas emissions and dramatically curbing growth in population, consumption and pollution, then we are doomed to extinction.
We need to adopt war time emergency strategies that affect everyone. This may mean controlling private enterprise to the extent that their policies are geared towards survival not just profit. This is a massive task that has to be on a world wide scale and it requires a world summit meeting to thrash out policies that will curb population growth and consumption, that will reduce energy needs and the exploitation of the earth’s natural resources. The wealthy Western countries will have to assist poorer countries in adopting and controlling the draconian measures that will be needed to prevent our impending demise.
This may seem alarmist and an over reaction, but the scientific evidence of our catastrophic effect on the earth’s ecological system indicates clearly we are creating an environment that will not sustain human life. We are all in the same sinking life boat , its time to start bailing rapidly.
If you value a future for the young of this planet, then action must be taken immediately.
