As we see in the world today, every one is blessed with some form of gift or talent of which they can share with others. Though these various gifts are not always stirred up they are present in us all. The presence of spiritual gifts are brought to our attention by the Apostle Paul as he states in 1st Corinthians chapter 12 verse 1, “ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.” He further went on to explain that there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit; differences of administrations, but the same Lord; and there are diversities of operations, but the same God, which works all in all. The Apostle Paul further lists in 1st Corinthians chapter 12 verses 8-12 the various spiritual gifts, “ For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same spirit. To another faith by the same spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.” These spiritual gifts have nothing to do with man in regards to the various occupations and disciplines of this world. These spiritual gifts come directly from God. In studying the above mention chapter, the apostle Paul used the human body as an example to indicate the workings of the various gifts. There shall be no schism (division in church) no matter which gift you may be blessed with, all are in the body of Christ and members in particular, and should have the same care one for another. If one member suffer, all members suffer with it, or if one member be honored all members rejoice with it. The apostle Paul further stated in verse 28 of the said chapter, “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.” God have blessed many of us with the various spiritual gifts for the fulfillment of His kingdom on earth. However, we cannot be naive to the fact that there are unclean spirits to contend with in our daily Christian walk. These unclean spirits have been brought on by the devil and past generation curses. These demonic spirits and generation curses have destroyed many lives and are continuing to do the same. The positive side of this dilemma is that the power of God is more powerful than the power of the devil. Any curse or demonic spirit can be cast out in the name of Jesus. However, only those who are blessed with this gift of healing and faith can perform this miraculous act. Also, Jesus did say that whatever any one asked in His name, in faith, without doubt, they would receive it, which also includes spiritual gifts. There is a crisis facing the Christian community that is creating a major discord among Christians. There is a spirit of jealousy and envy among members in the church and even some pastors as to how genuine are the various spiritual gifts that many claim to possess in the ways of healing, casting out of demons and other religious acts in the name of spiritual gifts. Though as Christians and persons of the world our carnal mentality would wonder some negative thoughts at times, God is the judge of us all. The Apostle Paul clearly states in verses 29 and 30 that we are not all called to be apostles, prophets, teachers, and workers of miracles, to possess the gift of healing or to speak in tongues and interpret. However, we should all seek and covert earnestly after the best gift of all, and that is ‘love’. God bless you all. Roderick R. Mckenzie Roddie30@hotmail.com « return. |
