LURE OF THE TABOO Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Reality, Nigeria Sep 5, 2006
Environment , Peace & Conflict   Poetry

It buds in the cradle,
The daily suggestion,
The cue and mental poison,
The shaping and carving of minds
To attune to the masses,

In bits we’re forged anew,
Well packaged and parceled,
We are introduced into life,
The good with its reward and
The bad with its sentence.

Yet the natural craves to be
It refuses to stick to plan,
It yearns for liberation,
From the shackles and costume,
It draws us even as we recoil,

The lure of the taboo,
The attractiveness of evil,
The beauty of the esoteric,
The burden of conformity,
All adds up to make us rebels,

All weigh against it all,
The years of lessons and taming,
Breaks down on its own and
In one swift change succumbs
To the innate lure of the forbidden.

I come alive when I write and the feeling that those few lines may impact positively on a soul unknown to me or even elicit a smile makes it a worthwhile endeavour.
