The society that we live in thrives on making us feel inadequate. This compels us to buy goods and services that promise to make us more beautiful, acceptable and desirable. We are ever moving through life comparing our looks, accomplishments and possessions with others when our meaningful competition is really with our former selves, with who we were yesterday. Usually when you compare yourself with someone, you think you are better or not as good. You are neither, you are not more or less, you are simply your own kind - a wonderful thing. One of the greatest dangers is to live outside ourselves and not honor the essential part of who we are - our thoughts, feelings, desires - that are struggling for expression. We shouldn't believe that someone knows what's best for us because in so doing, we negate our very being. Others' opinions can be helpful but no one should decide for us. Living your life is a very personal thing, therefore never look to anyone else to tell you who you are and how you should be, feel or act. This will make you scattered and confused, incapable of living your own life and you’ll end up feeling like a failure. Your freedom to grow and give expression to your uniqueness is God's greatest gift, so when you stop living your life your way, you abuse that gift. Trust that God made you complete with everything you will need (not want!) within you and not in the outside world. We each have to start our own life's course, set our own goals and decide to live our way. To do that takes time; time to get still; time to listen; time to accept that you are human and divine. You have the wisdom to make the best judgements. You have the courage to stand firm for your good; no matter how unpopular it may appear. You have the ability to use temperance and restraint when necessary. You have the potential within you to give balance and order to your life. No matter what you do you cannot get away from yourself. So you may as well deal with your own personhood. You are the BEST friend you have, the only one you can really count on in the final analysis. It therefore makes sense to see yourself as essential and move beyond any self-limiting feeling onto which you may be holding. In fact, for us as people this is one of the most revolutionary things we can do. BE YOURSELF. Begin each day with a feeling of “I am right with myself”. Dare to feel comfortable being who you are, to walk and talk in the ways that are natural to you. Be silent or chatty when you feel like it. Feel free to contradict, correct or repeat yourself. Apologize and demand respect without worrying about how you are perceived. Let your tears and laughter flow when they want to. Expand your mind with information you find nourishing. Be comfortable with your sexuality. Say YES to you - to all you. Look to your own self for affirmation. Lift your face, your palms and your chest with your feet firmly on the ground and say loudly “I am a glorious being, a miracle!” Be yourself. You are a divine original - a miracle, and your greatest challenge is to dare to be the miracle that is uniquely you. To move beyond other people’s perceptions of you, their opinions and expectations. BE YOURSELF no matter what, no matter where you find yourself. « return. |
