Peace & Conflict   Poetry

Popular today, notorious tomorrow,
Acclaimed today, booed tomorrow,
Anathema today, doctrine tomorrow,
Devilish today, saintly tomorrow,
Bad today good tomorrow,
Extremist today, liberal tomorrow,

It was never different,
Evil loses its sting in time,
All become acceptable as memory fades,
Unpopular ideas become en vogue,
Either its proponents fought for it or
Or death makes its opponents give up.

Those still alive forget the old days,
So does it all oscillate,
Nothing is ever preset,
Nobody really understands,
As things change to what they were,
We pass away and never know,

Rules made by the dead,
The living swiftly change,
The wind of change spares none,
It’s an eternal quagmire
Between construction and destruction
These never changing changes.

I come alive when I write and the feeling that those few lines may impact positively on a soul unknown to me or even elicit a smile makes it a worthwhile endeavour.
