Remember the folly of shooting oneself in the foot. Imagine then, the man who loses both feet by no fault of his own. If he is extraordinary enough, the extraordinary will inside him will help him conclude the journey as effortlessly as if he still could walk. Then of course there is another extraordinary person who we should not forget - one who rises above failure. An ordinary person cannot dream beyond a single misfortune. He or she can only wake up to more despair.
You should also bear in mind that modesty, if exaggeratedly applied makes being extraordinary a difficult task. Do not be too modest to reach the extremes. You will one day need to shout in a library if it becomes necessary. You also need to remember that you cannot be extraordinary at everything. Maurice Green would thoroughly embarass Bill Gates on a hundred metre track but fail to upload new software into his computer. It is common sense.
Being extraordinary is like finding your calling. It is not sophisticated people who achieve the extraordinary. Martin Luther King Jr said that if a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep the streets in such a way that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great sweeper who did his job well.
Brian Mukabeta, a friend of mine from my home town Makokoba (and an extraordinary sound engineer) says to be extraordinary is when you are tasked to go around the world in 80 days and you achieve this in 78.
