The political, economic and social challenges of Albania’s integration into the EU is included in the agendas of most of the political and social activists in the country- demonstrating the awareness for the importance of this undertaking. The Millennium Project Strategy incorporated in the National Social Economic Strategy for Development, aims to ensure the road to "the EU through the Millennium Development Goals towards the year 2015." This strategy leads to an action plan which includes counterpart involvement, government participation, UN Agencies, civil society and especially youth participation. This action plan needs to be assisted with a Youth Report on the MDGs and recommendations as seen from their prospective. However, most of the Albanian general public, especially youth, still have a naive perception of the UN and the EU, and their expectations are derived from this. Efforts have been made to improve the participation of young people, in particular disadvantaged and minority groups, young woman, not only in youth organizations and networks but also in the institutions and processes of pluralist democracy. They need to know more about international institutions like the United Nations, European Union and respective authorities. Support should be intensified for the young delegations, ensuring proper representation in International Meetings, including them in the participatory processes of country strategies, taking into account the training provided for these young democratic leaders and future diplomats in their own country through Leadership Programs, as the Model UN functions. We need to build a real democracy, and we can do it step by step, educating our future leaders through Millennium Development Goals! « return. |
