Do you like to be scared? I do. Hell, that’s why I chose this profession. I feed off your fear. You feed off mine. How did I get into this line of work? Oh I see, you mean why am I the way I am? Understandable question; I’d like to know who I’m hiring. I guess I was just born for it. Always had a high curiosity for the occult. Plagued by horrible nightmares; visits from the unknown. They’ve always wanted me. Just like they want you. Do you want understanding, reason, solution? So did I, that’s why I studied, I learned… I became.
So tell me where to start. Tell me everything. Who plagues you, where, when? Then we’ll figure out a why. A how, you opened this porthole. Let’s get one thing straight, you did open a porthole. Whether it was intentional or not, it’s now open, and that’s why I’m here. Was it a ouija board? That’s the most common. No, well let me explain. A porthole is an opening from this world to the next. Yes, those of the damned. This may be hard to pinpoint. For any spirit won’t stay in the house that it crossed into. Hey, the porthole may already be closed. It’ll follow you though, anywhere and everywhere you go. You called it, you released it; believe me honey, it’s all yours.
A ghost? Well you tell me. What does it look like? What does it do? Oh yes, there’s different kinds. You got your apparitions; they move like a recording. They’re fueled on pure energy; and just repeat the same event, over and over again. Like getting into bed at night, or getting shot in the head. I don’t think that’s your problem though. They’re pretty oblivious to us, too concerned in doing what ever it is that their damn souls have to do every night. Like I said, they’re mainly energy; got nothing solid to them. A spirit on the other hand, will interact. They’ll notice you, but they’ll usually shy away when you notice them. Nothing at all like a poltergeist. Now they’re fun. Wreaking havoc, throwing shit around. Sound familiar? Then you got your entities, or as I like to call em’… demons. Now that’s some shit you don’t want to get into. Believe me I’ve had my share of run ins with those bastards, and it was not pretty. No need to get upset now, if demons were here, I’d know. How; well I’d just sense em’. It’s kinda like a 7th sense of sorts. After a few face to face confrontations, you just know. You can’t forget something that evil. They still rip apart my mind at night, like a b-rated horror flick, terrorizing my dreams.
So give me a little insight here. You were pretty vague on the phone. Wait, you say. What exactly happens at 11:00? Yah, I guess seeing is better than a description. Hey maybe you do have an apparition. Well it’s your cash, I got all night. You look really familiar, have I told you that? No, well I’m sure we’ve met. No it’s not some saucy pick up line. Strange though, I do feel like I know you. You got something to drink? I could really use a beer.
Man, time’s going by slow tonight. It’s really eerie in here. Sorry, I don’t mean to put a damper on your decorating skills. But, you should get some lamps or something. It’s too dark. Yah, I prefer to work in the light. If you’d seen the things I have, you wouldn’t be too fond of the dark either. Do you mind if I have another beer? Thanks, you can dock em’ out of my pay. Did you hear that? No eh? Sorry, I must be getting a little too into the vibes. Hell, look at me I got goose bumps. Do you mind if I look around; I could’ve sworn I heard something.
Well looks all right, but one thing I’ve learned in my profession is you can’t believe your eyes. It sure feels cold in here all of a sudden. Something isn’t right. I’m certain of it. Yah I’ll have another beer.
How will I get rid of it? Don’t sweat it hon. I’ve got my methods. You’ll know it’s gone, and you don’t have to worry about it coming back. Oh I’m sure. I’d bet my soul on it. What’s so funny? I guess working with souls does make that an amusing comment. But my soul’s not damned. Well yah, you’re probably right. Their souls weren’t always damned. I don’t know, maybe by killing somebody, suicide, drugs. I ain’t the bible. I don’t know how, I just know they are.
No I don’t worry about the consequence of messing with them. Someone’s got to get rid of those bastards. In my opinion, there is no consequence. Just bad memories…and nightmares. But hey, it keeps me on edge; keeps me entertained. I’ve never known any other way. I’ve seen em’ since I was little. Seen em’ in my dreams, seen em’ in the halls.
Yah, my first encounter was in my head. It started, well as long ago, as I can remember. I don’t remember the details exactly. The dream stopped when I got into this career. But it taunted me, it called to me. No the dream was different every time. But it was always the same two bastards in it. Sometimes we’d talk. You know converse over a cup of tea. It was some great tea; looked like blood, but tasted like heaven. Other times, they would show me things. Fuck no, the things they showed me were horrible. Gut wrenching despair. I swear they’d bring me into hell and back. I guess those dreams were the reason I got into this line of work. I just had to make them go away.

I agree - that is a very unique piece; I love it!
It's amazing how such concise phrases can have such an emotional appeal - although I am still studying, I understand that need, that fascination - that dream that entices and that force that damns.
I hope you continue to keep up the writing :).
