Astrid: It is a project designed to fight against the lack of responsibility of the individual and the lack of knowledge of possible institutions that are in need of volunteers. It is a way to approach volunteers to NGOs in a responsible way. A lot of our volunteers are young people.
Fabrizio: What is your opinion about young people?
Astrid: So much energy and passion! Sumando’s team is pretty young, but it’s in the field and through our replication agents where I see their potential turn into action. The education in Paraguay is of course in crisis. It is a drama. Because of this we started our distance education program, which is a new methodological approach that will help our future and present generation to plug into this modern and globalized world.
Fabrizio: What about women in Paraguay?
Astrid: As you have noticed, in Sumando women are very present. But also in Paraguay. We have much more presence in the Executive Power, in the Congress, also the President of the Central Bank of Paraguay is a woman, and all over the civil society women are taking over. The prejudices against us are now disappearing. I am optimistic about women’s role in Paraguay, and that we will get our place, achieving the Millenium Development Goals.
Fabrizio: We truly hope so.
