HIV/AIDS and morality

Human immunodeficiency virus is, for sure, a big issue in many fields of life. In the science world it has become a battle and to society it has become one of the most deadly viruses. The saddest part is the attribution of HIV/AIDS to particular regions of the globe creating the impression that people from these regions are more susceptible to the virus than others. I would like to emphasis that, although the chances of infection varies, there is no exemption, that no human being is immunized against the HIV virus.

One still wonders if a cure will ever be discovered for AIDS. As scientists toil and moil in their exploration of various fields of knowledge in search for a cure nothing substantial has turned up just yet. On the other hand, these studies have brought about an incredible understanding of the viruses to a greater level of appreciation. For some reason I have always hoped that traditional medicine is the answer to this puzzle. There have been many false claims by various traditional medicine healers regarding a cure and this might cause dubious thoughts in a hope for a treatment from them. Does AIDS really have cure?

A close friend of mine once said ‘’ HIV/AIDS is an instant punishment for promiscuity”. This reminded me of a story about Prophet Noah and the Ark of God. When he was constructing the ark based on the instructions from God, despite his unrelenting effort to intimate the people of the flood to come, they remained adamant to his call. They defaced the ark with their feces in a bit to humiliate the Messenger of God. In learning their lesson in the hard way, there was an outbreak of this deadly disease whose only cure lies in the feces, which lie in the ark. On one afternoon, a sick member of the community went into the ark as usual to defecate; incidentally parts of his body touched some of the feces. And there was an instant cure of his illness. Man suffers the consequences of disobeying God.

It appears that most of the attempts to cure AIDS and to prevent the spread of the HIV virus have relied solely on scientific reasoning and only few people do talk on the moral approaches. At least the wide spread of the disease can be reduced with people being more fidelity with their sexual partner, but it spread like a burning fire in a dried grassland. Even to the point of endangering the lives of innocent new born babies. What a terrible welcome into this world!

We are often being counseled in the scriptures on the importance of obedience to God’s commandments. ‘’And we ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts: soon shall I show you the homes of the wicked, - (How they lie desolate)." *

Let us remember the laws of God are part of His love and grace in establishing orderliness to the world. I am not going to enumerate those laws on sexual relationships, for I believe there are clear enough, and left to individual beliefs and implementation. But I will leave the reader with this fact the more we practice the laws of God, the source of all laws the happier we shall be.
