Gunshots everywhere, hell is let loose………
Confusion everywhere,
My heart races, it beats loudly like the talking drum!
In shock, distorted & confused as though I were mad.
Yes! Escape.
Aagh! I run into a wall,
Darkness eludes me;
I am drowning! Struggling to grasp air;
I can hear voices…
Will she be okay? Poor child! Nne can you hear me?
Yes, beloved mum, thought I would never see you again.
This is a recaptured scene of my experience in school. Student cultist decided to disrupt the peace in school, I was in the library when it all started. What a bloody day it was, so much blood, so many tears, so many devastated hearts, so many bodies; all of them young, all of them youths, all of them potential future leaders. What a waste! Killed in cold blood by fellow students, all of them the youth, all of them potential leaders of tomorrow. An indelible mark did that experience leave in my mind, alongside other students.
Why, Why? Why does it exist? Can we fight it? Yes, I believe we can.
Violence has stolen my youth away,
Anger & deadly volatile energy inspires me.
Guns, machetes, all that can inflict pain, have become my companions, my addiction.
They have replaced my education, my youthfulness, my fun, my desire to leave; it has taken away my smile, violence has stolen my gait!
My eyes see nothing good; my ears listen to destruction, they hear thunderstorm, and my nose fumes smoke.
I am restless…
Is this life?
Ooh! peace, cannot this energy be directed positively?
Sleep eludes me.
I will explode soon,
with bits of my flesh flying around like particles of dust.
For the vultures to feed on; for humans to tread upon.
Is this what I will become?
Living, is this you?
What a burden I have become!
Peace where are you?
I want my youth back.
Violence is eating deep into our flesh. I grew up in a society ridden with violence; I refused to see it as a normal way of living. I have seen it everywhere, in school, in church, on the roads, in our homes. One way or the other, we have all been victims of volatile outbursts.
The society is the problem. There is so much poverty, hardship & difficulty, nothing comes appropriately or as deserved. There is so much anger at the government, in a bid to express the anger, more damage is done, and sadly it affects those least concerned.
Violence starts with the thoughts, plays with the emotions & displayed in act either vocally or physically.
A volatile reaction leaves an indelible negative impression. It instills fear in our minds; it is destructive. Rather than improve matters, it impedes it.
We can fight against violence by preaching against it & by acting against it. Basically, it should be more of individual reform. We should decide to negotiate, dialogue & persuade. We are the leaders of tomorrow, we should not continue with the mistakes of the past. The future is in our hands; what a terrible world it will be if we do not embark on this reform.
“Do not envy violent people; don’t copy their ways. Such wicked people are an abomination to the LORD, but he offers his friendship to the godly”. (Proverbs: 3:31-32)
