Poverty   Short Stories

Youth organizations must engage in fundraising activities whose profits may be used to provide food and shelter for the destitute. Instead of just living by the day, such people could be taught to perform a task that enables them to be productive members in their societies. Money could also be used to invest in education centers where primary education would be provided to the illiterate. This will help some people develop talents and skills needed to earn a living.

In the case of Leila, for example, developing the skill of drawing will be a weapon in her hands, a tool that would bring her income and dignity. Therefore, educating people is equipping them with provisions strong enough to fight against poverty. Equally, youth groups should also engage in training activities where they could be trained, or be trainers on the MDGs and related topics. This would help spread the word, increase awareness, and encourage action among other youths. Such action will help thousands of people such as Leila.

We, the youth of the world, can make a difference together. The climb toward success may be steep, tiring and at certain phases, may seem impossible. However, with strong beliefs and help from each other, we will achieve our Goals. Then we will show thousands of Leilas from all over the world that life is a precious gift, and that there are many things in our world worth living for.
