| A Magical Birthday with Patti LaBelle: July 8th, 2004 - Perugia, Italy |

I waited patiently backstage for Patti, and greeted every band member with positive comments on their performance. When Patti came out, she smiled at me and while signing autographs, she asked me how long I was studying in Perugia. "One month, mam" I replied, and she looked at me several times to translate some of the erroneous requests of her Italian fans. Afterward, while walking just behind her, I met her camera man and he asked me what brought me to Perugia. I explained my Global Executive Leadership and Youth Studies major, the list of countries I'm scheduled to study in, and my dream of building schools in developing countries. He was impressed, and since I was never the type to hound anyone for attention and slowly walked away from the crowd.
Then I heard, "You take care of yourself, Brooklyn." I turned around and Patti LaBelle smiles at me, and I return with, "I will. Thank you mam." turning around, one of her assistants wishes me a happy birthday, I thank her, and walked towards the nearest Piazza with the biggest smile on my face, and whispering a special thank you to that higher power.
This email is my way of saying thank you to those who have supported me for the planning, execution, and duration of this study abroad to Italy and my previous one to China. I've attached some photos for your enjoyment, and rest assured, I am doing well now, and plan to return to the states a better human being and a greater Kalimah.
My appreciation and deep hearted thanks go out to you all. Thank you for reading these words.
