The Risks and Rewards of the Entrepreneurial Life Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

3 reasons why you would want to be an entrepreneur – and the drawbacks associated with them:

Reason #1: Financial Return
Like any standard risk/reward situation, an entrepreneur expects to be well compensated for the work he or she puts in due to the high level of risk involved in starting a new venture. Creating your own company can potentially provide the high income that would otherwise not be available if you were simply working as an employee for someone else.

Reason #2: Freedom
The freedom to function autonomously is the second reward from entrepreneurship. The ability to be your own boss, make all the decisions, and set your own hours is one of the main factors contributing to one’s decision to adopt the entrepreneurial lifestyle.

Reason #3: Lifestyle
Finally, many entrepreneurs establish their own enterprises because they find traditional jobs too boring, routine, and unchallenging. Entrepreneurs can make their jobs exciting, incorporate their lifestyle into their business, and often have a higher degree of overall job satisfaction.

The Drawbacks
Unfortunately, there are also many drawbacks associated with entrepreneurial ventures. Among them include investing personal money, long working hours, many stressful situations, emotional and physical draining, and the possibility of failure at any moment. Needles to say, the entrepreneurial lifestyle is not for the weak of heart, but if you are willing to take on the risks, the monetary and non-monetary rewards can indeed be very satisfying.
