I saw,
The food on the table,
The herd of the herbalist, who is able,
The furniture in the halls,
The splendour at the falls,
The leather belt on the man,
And the silk on the woman,
Then I remember the gift
Of Mother Nature concealed
In the parcel of environment.
Then I heard the sob of tears
As I was gripped with fears
Mother Earth shed tears,
Because mankind seem not to hear,
The cry of her fears.
“You betrayed my love and trust
For a worthless piece of deceit,
Conceived in wombs of selfish minds.
You have sealed my womb,
The very womb that birthed you,
With dust and dirt.
My once beautiful cover,
You razed off with blades of fire.
If you say I lie,
Then let my tears of ashes and
The hairless faces of the Sahara
Bear me witness.
My breast milk is sour,
Because you bit it with teeth
Poisoned with CFC’s and liquid wastes.
You have clouded my eyes with dust,
Carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons.
If you think I lie,
Let the scars on my belly
Speak the truth.
You have serrated my belly with
Holes and ditches.
My breath is dying, it is dying…
When it is done,
Remember I warned you.
When life becomes infested with
Maggots,
Remember I warned you.” Cries mother Earth.
Listen to me,
People of the world,
For how long shall we tarry
If the load of responsibility we cannot carry
To save our environment?
When shall we say sorry and
Move with hurry
To preserve our environment?
I must foretell you;
The hawk will soon fight the chicken for
The coop.
The mouse will visit the cat
Pleading for accommodation.
The snake will sleep on our beds,
Just because of lost habitats.
Listen to me,
All people of the earth
Yesterday is memory,
Tomorrow is imagination
Today is reality.
Rise today with me
To save mother, to save us now!

poetry with substance and imagery Prince Saud Ben Abdulaziz | Nov 14th, 2004
Brilliant and emotive with vivid images showing mother earth as a "living" being rather than
and inaminate, static, unfeeling, thing.
