The first impression I had when I entered Gaza Strip was very frustrating. Once I got out of Rafah gate I felt every thing has been changed after two years of expatriation to do my Master degree. During the trip to my house, passing by Rafah, I saw devastation, families who were the victims of human rights violations, the walls were covered with bloodstains, houses turned into ruins. I was very sad that I was unable to visit Rafah camp and see the last disaster made by Israeli Occupation Force. I spoke to the driver who took me from Rafah gate to my house about what happened during the last two years, it turns out that he was one on the victims who lost their houses, the talks was going on and on all the way “it was very hard days, the worst in my life, now I am homeless, they came at night and suddenly we heard the house going down over our heads without any warning, now we are waiting for the UN to solve our problems, but we will not give up they can not eradicate us from our lands”. Israel Occupation Force justifies demolishing the houses that there are military groups firing from inside these houses or using it as shelter. The last Israeli military operation in Rafah has broken all the international convections, as what happened in Jenin and what is happening in Nablus.
After hearing these words it was very difficult to convert these feelings into words. For such people who lived under occupation for long time, it has severe impact on their daily lives. The hatred towards Israeli's is increasing, the Israelis created such hatred by killing innocent people, moreover all the foreigners who visited Israel and especially who came to Gaza strip and West bank have witnessed the killing of the Palestinians, they started to understand the real situation and all what they see in media is fake.
Israeli occupation has undermined the Palestinian right to self-determination were they left no choices for Palestinians to live, as a consequence what we see today every one is waiting his turn, you don’t know whose turn tomorrow or you will live for tomorrow or not?
While we were traveling on our way to Gaza City, after Khan Younis city there was Israeli checkpoint which restrict the freedom of movement, no one can pass until the Israeli soldier give the sign, we were waiting a long time until he permit us to pass, the driver told me only taxi cabs can pass but private cars are prohibited, in such checkpoint you feel so weak, so defenceless your life so easily abandoned in somebody else's hands. After a long time waiting under the sun the soldier wave by his hand to pass and some times two or more bullets he fires for passing and one for stopping, the driver said this is the sign we have to move.
Israel must respect the right for Palestinians to live and to move freely without any restrictions, especially in the checkpoints they should realize that the Palestinians are human beings and must treated as human beings. Israeli government should follow the UN resolutions, as occupation force they should not humiliate people specially the women, women crossing checkpoints are often subject to sexual harassment and intimidation by Israeli soldiers, sometimes the women are obligated to give birth in the checkpoints because of the Israeli restrictions.
At last I reached my house in one piece after a long journey which normally takes half an hour but it took more than two hours. Palestinians have the right for self-determination and it’s the time for Israel to understand that they cannot control more than 5 million Palestinians any longer.
