As a 15 year old student attending a school in Australia, I am well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of modern education. Yet increasingly we are seeing a new type of education - one that takes into account individual learning styles and the thoughts and opinions of the children. In this style of education, teachers are no longer lecturers, but rather mentors who help children to develop self-learning abilities. With the aids of technology, educational tools and teachers' help, children most often are self-taught. I believe that this new style of education is the one that will empower children - empower them to not be dependent on adults, but instead find strength and courage within themselves. They can find courage to speak out against potential abuses and to create a future that is for themselves and for the children that they will have. This is a future I hope we have, and I will do all that is in my efforts to make it happen. « return. |
