Drug addicts seek a comfort in their drug to escape the hardships of their lives. The drug can be the cause of many problems, it is a vicious circle.

Drug addicts will likely suffer many consequences from the drug use including incarceration, and various physical degradations such as lung diseases, mental distortions, (similiar to schizophrenia), loss of teeth (common in methamphetamines users) and death.

Drug addicts often have no support system because they have often depleted the trust of their family for pursuit of their habit, and are so mentally altered that they show no remorse for their actions .

A study said that at least 50 percent of people with alcohol or drug addictions have an additional mental illness, such as depression, anxiety, attention-deficit disorder or bipolar disorder and most of the time they aren’t treated or diagnosed properly.
Drugs contain chemicals that tap into the brain’s communication system and disrupt the way nerve cells normally send, receive, and process information. Some people says it is not their fault, that they are so deeply set in their ways that they just don’t know how to give up.

Drug addictions have not only bad consequences on the individual such as family disintegration, loss of employment, failure in school, domestic violence, and child abuse. Also the entire society is damaged by increased crime and violence. Instead of just saying don’t do this or don’t do that, to help the children not to choose drugs in their life, schools should promote awareness, and a healthy life style.

People with substance abuse problems think they don’t have any resources to help them. But in actuality there are tons. There are many organizations that are there to help. The thing is that nobody can help someone that doesn’t want help. Maybe something will happen and they will realize that they are ruining their life and then they will be able to get out of this pattern of behaviour and get back their life. Someone experiencing a drug problem must realize that there are people and resources available. He won’t be alone and that they will go through this together. The addicts should be careful when they chose a therapist center, especially if they also have a mental disease, because the center may not have proper equipment to handle those diseases.
