Poverty and vulnerability in Oaxaca, México Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Alejandro Hernández, Mexico Mar 13, 2004

Emilio was a very much appreciated adolescent in town because he worked for his family; as well as by its amiable and simple temperament, and his helpful character. Many people from other towns attended his funeral, and placed a little monument in the place of its death to remember him. With regard to the legal thing, the contractor gave the mother forty thousand pesos –four hundred dollars-, and forced her to sign a conformity act; in this way, there would not be a later legal demand. When people from the town found out this became furious, and reunited, they went to the Agent offices to demand the facts. The scandal provoked was above what is usual that the contractor was forced to terminate the act that had signed the mother, and offer a righteous and economic compensation of one hundred twenty thousand pesos. At this moment, the biological father of Emilio had been warned of the event and has returned to the community; he was the one who received and kept the money of the indemnification.
