Grandma's Wedding Party Painting is a kind of powerful language, and I use painting to tell people what I think. I joined Eco Youth in Kobe in 2008, and met many students from different countries. I understood how important we are from all of our environment reports. Every student tried to take actions to protect the earth in their countries. In order to write my report, I also visited some experts and the environmental bureau in my city with two students, Ben and Vickie.

During the Eco Youth summit, every student introduced their culture and tradition to others. It’s so interesting, and made me think more about Taiwan. How can I promote our culture to others? What is my duty of being a youth to connect the old generation and keep the tradition?

The first thing I did is create our first peace book with Vickie

I’m interested in being a bridge of old tradition and new culture, and would like to work on it. It’s not a conflict, but a way of sharing a new global culture, and that is also a great evolution. I did it with my artwork. Drawing can talk. If tradition can be changed with time, youth will accept the old things. The modern culture and tradition will keep the balance, and it can also allow the youth to know their culture.

I found one of the pictures about my grandma’s wedding party, and decided to draw it. The bride is my grandma, and the old lady is the matchmaker. At that age, they already had fashion ceremonial dress, but the old people still wore traditional Taiwanese clothes. So, I called it “ Grandma’s wedding party.”
