Debashree describes herself as a " whimsical nomad, set off to revolutionize the earth." She has a passion for social change and is an indefatigable promoter of Bengali language and culture on TakingITGlobal. Bengali is one of the languages that TakingITGlobal is working on launching in 2010 and it is thanks to the involvement of volunteers like Debashree that TIG has such rich and vibrant multilingual communities! Get to know Debashree here

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Debashree Mukherjee, I am a TIG volunteer and I have the role of Bengali Language & Engagement Coordinator. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and I am passionate about cultures and photography because people and ethnicity inspire me. I live in India but travel around the world quite a bit, which is why I love to call myself a Global Citizen (though I understand the importance of acting locally!) I believe in a simple mantra: Consume Less - Share More - Live Simply!

2. What are your overall thoughts on your volunteer experience?

Being involved in TIG Bengali activities is interesting. I joined the team because I wanted to be able to use TIG in my mother tongue, so that it could reach remote Bengali-speaking youth and empower them. I expressed this desire in a discussion board thread and it immediately received a positive response! I find it lovely when TIG in Bengali gets to evolve out of my desktop and that of my tea mates! It is really a tough job coordinating a volunteer team in a virtual environment, especially when face-to-face communication is hard to organize, and that sometimes impacts our motivation levels. But our team is also blessed with determined people who work together to make the dream come true, so I am hopeful!
