Youth with a Difference in Kenya YOUTH INVOLVEMENT QUESTIONAIRE
Part 1
1. Tell us about yourself and what you do.
My name is Bridgit Syombua Muasa, Kenyan, African and Global citizen. I am a veterinarian by profession, however when I am not busy elevating the suffering of animals, I volunteer as a Youth leader and I am currently the President of Cosmos Education Kenya (CEK).
At present I am working as a graduate student at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Kenya. At ILRI, I am currently working on a project aimed at sustainably producing crossbreed F1 heifers. This project is aimed at addressing the current rise in food insecurity and will assist alleviate poverty among farmers in developing countries by ensuring a rapid and sustainable way of producing heifers.

2. Are you a member of any youth group and /or organization? (please name them and write a bit on what the groups do)
I have passions for a lot more than just animal welfare and one of my interests is youth in leadership and development.
At present I am involved in various development and charitable organizations. One such organization and that which is closest to my heart is Cosmos Education Kenya (CEK).
CEK is part of an international non governmental organization dedicated to improving science and technology education in developing countries.
The mission of Cosmos Education Kenya is to foster an understanding of global sustainable development through improved science and technology education in Kenya and in other developing regions of the world. We aim to inspire, engage, and empower young Kenyans in science education and to foster critical thinking that will serve as a life skill.
I am also a volunteer at the Kenya Red Cross Society Nairobi Branch where I actively participate in Disaster management and response, Including first aid services and Relief distribution. At the Red Cross I am also trained as a peer educator on HIV/AIDS and life skills
Child rights defender movement (CRDM) is another organization that I volunteer for. This is a youth led organizations that advocates for the rights of children. At this organization I also volunteer as a peer educator empowering children on their responsibilities and life skills
3. What have you achieved so far in the youth project and what are the challenges that you face?
Africom – Pamoja tunaweza was project number 17 in the projects selected for funding at the close of the third world youth congress in Stirling Scotland in 2005. This project was funded under the Be the change programme of peace child international with support from Scottish council for voluntary organizations and the Lloyds TSB foundation.
Pamoja tunaweza is a Swahili word that means together we can, which is the spirit of this project.
4. What makes a good leader?
One who leads by example and on who takes into consideration everyone’s opinion but has the wisdom to know what to take from it.

Part 2
1. What do you like about Kenya?
According to the Cambridge advanced dictionary a country is piece of land with its own government, army e.t.c. In my opinion a country is much more than that, it’s the people who occupy this land, and they are the ones that make one country differ from another.
One of the most amazing things about Kenya is the people. Young and old, the educated and those that lack formal education alike all seek knowledge and participation. Be it in the social and political scene there is a great thirst for knowledge and participation of the issues surrounding us.
This is a great potential and resource for the country which needs to be harnessed and utilized appropriately as it may equally be misused.
Kenyans are also known for their ease in creating friendships
That aside Kenya is also known for its Game parks and rich diversity in wildlife, playing host to the big five. It doesn’t hurt that we play host to the 9th wonder of the world.
2. Give any inspirational quotes to encourage other young people to participate in youth project.
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
- H.D. Thoreau
Do not look for the next opportunity the one you have in hand is the opportunity!
