Nigeria, the sleeping giant recently marked its 43rd independence anniversary in an atmosphere of frustration and uncertainty. At this stage of nationhood, with her impending status and having attained the age, one would have expected a celebration predicated on milestones and a firm resolve to march forward to greater heights. Sad enough, all extreme odds have been the lot of this great nation with a reserve of some of the brightest species of the human kind. With the potentials and capacity to develop and sustain a world class economy, no where in the world has there been so much natural resources left to fallow and waste .Young men and women who constitute the most active force in any society are being isolated from the scheme of things and left to rot on the streets. It is worthy of note that all along while the ill-wind and misfortune of governance destabilize the foundation of the Nigerian society ,there has been discerning voices that turned out to be lone voices in the wilderness. In other circumstances where broader efforts are made to turn things around, betrayal inspired by corruption becomes the obstacle. The youth has always been and remains the victim at the receiving end. Bearing this in mind, with great dynamism the Nigerian youth has chosen to challenge the status quo with every logical tool that avails it. Firmly resolving to resist every obstacle and push beyond the boundaries of impoverishment. With the inaugural conference of TIG in Nigeria, a new phase of social and economic change has just begun; it will be a platform for change and reorientation for the Nigerian Youth. In this regard, I implore all TIG members in Nigeria to get off the rhetorics of fine talk and take action, this way we can make it real. Philip Emeagwali, a renowned scientist described Nigeria as a project in progress, we have the task of ensuring it doesn’t become an abandoned project. ...Connect online and take action offline. « return. |
