Since Communism would not be an effective body to control the Commanding Heights would we consider an Anti- Communist/Terrorist effective implementer of change? Do we consider Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as one of those individuals who is good enough to brought Economic principles at work? Sure enough the President did well in supporting the war in Iraq. In this she probably presumed that the war would increase the money that is circulating in the United States and thus benefit the Philippines in the short run. The President is a good economic leader and her actions in terms of the future of the Philippine Economy are fairly rational. Everyone prefers something over another. It would be better however if the President would not limit such interest as to not to abase the common people.
Therefore, the control of the Commanding Heights in the Philippines should be placed in the hands of individuals who are capable enough to serve the nation casting all political and material pressures aside. The Commanding Heights of the Philippines can be secured by few individual even with their vested interest so long as they will benefit not only the overall GNP of the Philippines but also the welfare every Filipinos. This however in reality is not the case as it is said, power corrupts.
It is good to have leaders that are enlightened. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is enlightened; the only sad part is that she is not able enough to harness the full potential of the Philippine Economy. This is because her government was not able to breed the necessary consciousness for the people to commit to change. The President in her Commanding Heights was successful enough in stabilizing the peso value but such would only be for a short run.
What we need are leaders like Mahathir, Deng Xiaoping, and Thatcher who can boast the Growth of their Economy not because they are given incentives by the other nations to collaborate with them in their war agenda but because they were able enough to shape the Economy of their nation to its fullest potential. Mahathir was right when he said that there was really no Asian Miracle. It is a matter of putting our Ideas at work. Reforming the Economic and Political Policies of the nation, and constituting rules that everyone would abide even if you are a wealthy Congressman.
The problem in the Philippines is its Commanding Heights, lack of ideas, and thus, reforms backwardly through surmountable law amendments that are fueled by private interest or Corporate Incomes. Worst we have rules that even the makers of the rules don’t know how to play.
