The issue of poverty is a growing global problem. If it is not solved, our youth and the achievements that are in their grasp will crumble like the Berlin wall. Only this time, their will not be any closure for those affected, in it's place those who could have made a difference will be rewarded with guilt. Every corner you turn on to in some places like down town Toronto are filled with kids trying to beg for enough money that will assure them some food for the day. Homeless shelters have been stationed in different areas around Canada but they seem to not be enough for the amount of "road residence." Every Christmas, doors are opened for these people to have a holiday meal, that's as much as we can offer. I personally think that it is horrible to only offer these people one meal a year. One solution might be to put these kids into classes which will train them for a job. This will at least help them earn enough money to pay the costs of living a full life. Then they will not have to worry where your next meal is coming from and where they will sleep.
Teen Pregnancy is another huge issue in Canada. Most teen mothers are asked to leave school once the principal is informed or when they find out they are carrying a child. The reason being the parents along with the staff of the school including the education department feel that teen mothers might be a bad influence on the other kids. They think it would alter some children’s perspectives on issues about issues on matters with sexual content. In some ways that is true but some people might learn from others mistakes. To solve this problem I believe, there should be information available to teens, who feel they need to know what might happen if they were to have sexual intercourse. In some cases kids are too stubborn to see through the thick layer of "hype" that surrounds the word sex, this seems to have some irresistible aura which attracts some impressionable teens. Then they fall victim to it at a young age and they end up pregnant. With these cases I suggest the girls are given a place where they can still manage their education while raising a child. A person should not be cut of from the educational world that all humans are exposed to.
In addition another big issue of kids getting their hands on drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes that are either illegal and are for people that are older than them. Other reasons might be some concerning the health and well being of the children. The only thing that will solve this problem is public awareness. People need to be informed about what the kids of today are exposed to. Another way that we can prevent this from happening is parents should be active in their child’s life. This assures the kids that they have someone to turn to for help. Instead of resorting to drug abuse as the answer that will not get them anywhere, probably end up talking to a shrink about their problems.
In this day and age, kids are exposed to much more to those children two or three decades before our time. We as a generation have had to cope with the harsh reality that the world we live in has problems beyond our comprehension. Once we are a part of the issue that is when the kids should take part in resolving the situation. Along with helping themselves I feel that the youth of today should help out those in other countries, towns and cities. It's time to make a difference it all starts with one person, an idea, a will and the support to make a dream become a reality.
