Poverty   Opinions

We are called the "Youth of Pakistan" as well as the "Nation Builders" - however, we are really nullifying the rewards given to us by our mother land (the very country which is a result of the countless sacrifices of our forefathers, for the attainment of their descendants' liberty, prosperity and prestige). What we are giving to this country is simply nothing. We are the "Young Seagulls”, trying to fly without feathers.

Unknown destinations are followed by us and in their pursuit, we have to face such consequences that may turn our whole life into a mess. The shackles of traditions encircle us throughout our life. Whenever there rises up something new in our mind, it is pressed down as being a "rebellious thought".

So how, such a paralysed mind and body can serve its nation? In fact, the "Nation Builders" themselves need overhauling. Unless and until, we develop an optimistic thinking, unshackled of the dead traditions, our journey to the country's prosperity cannot reach its destination. We should not lose the right path simply seeing what kind of absurdities and unfair means are already being followed over here, rather we should exemplify good patterns of behavior for the coming generations.

Common problem
Haseeb | Oct 20th, 2003
One common problem beside the diverse problems in South Asia and Central Asia is shared by most of us , we the Afghans , you the Pakistanis, our freind in Iran and in Uzbekistan and other countries in this region and that is the rulling of tradition. Tradition is rulling minds, its an obstacle in the way of devolpment , in my mind. Now, I do belive culture and tradition are different from each other, we do have to respect and follow our cultures and try to preseve them but when it comes to traditions...I am totlay against doing things in a traditional manner. Why not invent something new, rather then do it the way its used to be done? Why not use logic first and use tradition (experience) as a life line?

Thanks for going through the article and sharing your precious views with all of us. "Why not use logic first and use tradition (experience) as a life line?", is undoubtedly a matchless sentence and I 100% agree to your view point. We need to cultivate a new vision into the hearts and minds of our youth. You know, the social situation that pinches me to the core is that, in Pakistan even a highly educated man (except a very little portion of soiety) doesn't allow his sister or daughter to acquire education to a higher standard and if, willy-nilly, she is awarded with such a chance, ultimately she is blocked from using her potentials in the respective field.(this is just one picture of thousands of other social stigmas) Hence apart from the dead traditions, this crippled thinking also creates great hindrances in the way of our nation's progress. Infact, we are infected with innumerable fatal viruses from inside with a mask of gentility and modernity on our faces.I'm basically against this dual, paralysed and stigmatic thinking. So what should be the antidote to such a deadly poison? To me just one; ie alongwith getting rid of the dead traditions, we "the youth" have to broaden our vision also. It's not an easy job to clean up one's mind of centuries' cherished views; but if we wish to earn for our beloved country a good name & fame among the comity of nations, taking of such a daring initiative is a must. Praying for peace & prosperity in Afghanistan, fari
