Africa, oh Africa,
Our profound civilization.
Where did it go?
Has it been eaten up
Alongside colonialism,
Or was it butchered
Right from the slave trade days?
Our civilization was arrested,
Our culture was frozen,
Our self esteem laid low,
Our rights trampled upon,
Our women & daughters raped.
Even the men were not exempted,
I weep, how I weep for Africa.
A generation destroyed.
A people disoriented.
How I seek vengeance,
Vengeance against the beasts
Who ‘killed’ my continent.
What more can I do,
What more can I say
Than:
Arise, oh Africa.
Put yourself together.
We can be great again.
We will be great again
If all and sundry
Tap into this vision.
