Peace & Conflict   Poetry

As I stood up to admire nature
I saw dreams that lacked meaning,
I saw birds that flew without wings,
I saw tomorrow pregnant, without children.

I lacked words to express my concerns,
I lacked freedom and total dignity to take charge,
I was villages that counted losses,
Terrified for the future's sake.

I lack courage in faith.
If I had the power I would change life
And happily rest in the morning sun.
The rest rarely turns stories in the afternoon sad.

It really was like a morning dream.
I saw children laughing and dancing
With dust and sand living their lives,
Without minding my sadness in the hot afternoon.

I felt disturbed but without expression.
How can I express my place in this dilemma?
The Heavens looked great but they are always around.
I saw gutters with waters that make children sick.

My dream was even in broad-day light.
I saw people approaching with sentences
Who claimed they were Africans returning.
They said, "We are worthy of character."

They disrespected my laws at that impression-
Since first impression matters around here.
They disrespected my abilities to see beyond
But I looked forward against their background into identity.

I looked also into the future
And saw palm-trees dancing at my instance
Opening my eyes, I looked again for the wind
I saw heavens spreading around in progression

Finally, I looked again for the last time
I saw nothing but hills being eaten by plains
It was the view of myself 'trekking' through the wilderness,
Doing, thinking and imagining!
