Over the past few decades – the reason to work has definitely altered to climbing a ‘ladder’ – to keep climbing and climbing the ranks until you reach the top, where life inevitably ends. As you go further up the ladder, you change. You want money, you want success, and you want to climb that ladder at sometimes, extreme costs. Of course, climbing that ladder requires time, energy, and some personal sacrifices like recreation, like family time, like relationships.

All of a sudden, you’re always in a rush, too busy, and too occupied and engrossed within your own life, in growth, in advancement. You never take a moment to relax, to reflect.

In our time, people’s minds are so secure, so set on the fact that life will remain the way it is, secure in that sense. People believe that everything in the unimaginable happens far from home, far from me.

Suddenly, what the mind thought impossible happens.

It was something so shocking and revolting, halting life. And we, for once after so long, began to realise, to understand what exactly we were missing out on, what exactly had changed, what exactly we forgot. People began to reflect on their lives – on others, the world, and themselves. They began to ponder over questions they never asked themselves before. They saw the same things in different lights and along side that, they saw the shadows, the grays and the depths of life.

People began to understand that life isn’t out of harm’s way. They are still part of the world – of crime, of hate, and therefore, are prone and susceptible.

Humans, while progressing in every other field, forgot each other. They forgot what they meant to each other, that life could end at any second. They forgot the value of people in their lives because of the rush, the busyness, the occupancy of time.

9/11 – a tragically memorable act, and a sign that bought the People together, that made them feel the Love in life, in others, in themselves.

It was a sign that reminded us that we are a not only a part of the world, but also, a part of each other.
