He contributes a lot of who he is today as a result of his experiences in school and the growth that took place during those years. Five months ago Novell describes the birth of his son, as being the most defining moment for him in his life. He equates this experience to winning a prize and wishes to continuously learn more about the world around him in hopes of making his son proud of him.
Novell has always been passionate about making an impact on his surroundings; he gave us some examples of how he got involved in social engagement at a young age:
“When I was in primary school I was an active member of the Red Cross for 5 solid years, during my secondary school years of high school, I was also an active member of the Internet, Rotary Club, Reach Ministry, the Scripture Union and so on. Being the only child in my family I never felt what having a brother or sister was like, I was able to experience some similar types of relationships through social clubs, and I learnt to give back the society at a very tender age. So today everything I do has no purpose if it does not benefit the society at large.”
Some of the challenges Novell had to face as he developed various enterprises for social change include getting financial backing and building a capital base. He had to be very creative with money and balancing his goals with his budget. “Every enterprise starts as an idea and that’s most important, so everything else must follow, the primary goal is to get the idea into action. With purpose, goal, strategy and proper business structure it’s so possible to succeed.”
Novell’s advice for those interested in starting their own enterprise for social change: “Do your research, take your time, don’t rush (business is not a horse race course), believe in yourself, and learn to drop obstacles, please don’t take them on board.”

I have been fortunate to have experienced a variety of excellent opportunities such as, working at EMI Music Canada, a recording studio, djing in night clubs in Toronto and Tokyo and participating in photography festivals in Tokyo; but, nothing has been as rewarding as working with youth.
