"Wisdom is the principle thing" The bestselling book of all time as the scripture records. This could basically be because of its vital role in successful leadership.
Many scholars have tried to define wisdom as "the right application of the right knowledge". No matter how competent knowledge has made us, until it is applied via the right attitude, we remain far from the result-profiting.
Wisdom to me means more than the above. It is the experience and result of the right knowledge we deliberately applied that has become enshrined in our sub-conscious and attitude of mind. It means the ability we acquire through the experience of knowledge; and the matching of our competencies with the corresponding attitude. Technical abilities and competencies alone cannot make us productive and generate the desired result. The right and corresponding attitude is a must.
Wisdom is the bedrock, foundation and primary tool for every successful leadership; transcending profession, subjects and geography. One quick access to wisdom I observed is the understanding of life and the inevitable principles that are very functional therein. They practically explains the processes and changes that that are part of our lives and societies. For every result we experience and encounter in life and in societies today, is either a product of an applied principle or a consequence of a broken one. This is very important. It simply reveals here that, either, we are functioning (part of the solution), solving problem, or malfunctioning (part of the problem), creating and adding more problems to our society, base on the principles we model or break.
We were designed and built to function and operate by principles. When we understand and base our lives and the entire societal systems to operate by and with the inevitable principles that constitute our overall composition, we function to become and release the solutions that exists in us as potentials to our societies and world, thereby ameliorating most problems we experience that are direct consequences to our ignorance, neglect and often breaking them. On the contrary, when we fail to operate by them (principles) we simply default our built and design, creating a situation of malfunction that produces unwanted, undesired results contrary to our purpose and unhealthy to our society. What a tragedy?
Let us examine the following principles for examples:
(A) The mind is a beautiful gift and man's major tool for change. Knowledge and information are the mental food that activates and empowers our mind for creativity and productivity. When the mind is starved of information it becomes poor, uncreative and very unproductive. Again, it responds to the kind of information programmed into it. If the information is right and healthy, the result will be same. But when the information is wrong, the result sure is the same. This is a principle.
(B) No man, company, nation and country can succeed, develop and record any major achievement in isolation. Networking, integration, relationship accessibility and peace should be part of our pursuit for personal success and social development. Segregation, discrimination, and inaccessibility for any reason whatsoever, is simply a sign-post that we are defaulting malfunctioning in principle and design. This will certainly produce unwanted and undesired results that hinder success, productivity and development. This too is a principle.
When we base our living on the principles we were built and designed with that ensures a productive and developed society, we are functioning and operating by WISDOM. Wisdom therefore remains the principle thing. However, when defaulting becomes regular and common with us, living becomes dangerous. Our entire system becomes subjected to an attitude that perpetuates the wrong and undesired results in our lives and society at large.
