War- Our Friendly, Fiendish Curse Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Chinyere Cheny, Nigeria Dec 4, 2007
Media , Peace & Conflict   Poetry

You came
And with wide-spread arms
We received you
Believing you had our problem's cure.

We worshipped you,
Appeased you
With our guns,
Bullets and artillery.

You smiled and laughed
As you rubbed your belly,
Asking for more,
More than we could give.
We looked and saw our homes
In shambles, our cities fallen.

It's over many decades now
But we never recovered.
Yes we still fight, though a different war of
Poverty, diseases, maladministration, sickness...
Which you left behind
When you hurriedly departed.

You, our friendly solution,
Became a fiendish curse.
