Thirst is in my mind yet the journey to an oasis is still along trek. My feet are calloused and my skin is burned with the arid atmosphere. Not even a sugarao or ocotillo is seen in the vicinity and it is high noon up here. Life is threatened in this scenario in the midst of this search. But my hope to see an oasis at the end site of the desert prolongs my life. For my life in a well-watered area is happiness to the soul. I had been there three or four times. It was really a thirst-quenching place where anybody dares to dwell because of self-fulfilling environment and soothing affect of water. I was supposed to stay there for good, but since the area was only for the pilgrims,I continued seeking for a bigger oasis. The fist oasis I had had been, was swamp-like. Only few palm trees surrounded the area but camels and wanderers abound. Tents were built beside the well and under the trees. Some stayed there for good but some fluctuated and searched for a bigger accommodation. I replenished myself and reserved as much water my storage can hold. And afterwards, I joined the journey. The second was a bigger than the former, but the population was also bigger. Like what others did in the first oasis, I stored as much water in my jar, quenched my thirst and joined the journey. Date palms abound in the third oasis but the water was not that good to drink. It was salty and dry. I just stocked dates and joined the journey. We were somehow lucky because we had seen springs of water, which were intended for pilgrims. My life in primary was the firsts oasis in my life. The second was my secondary school life. The third was when i detached myself from a peer group who were not that good to be with. The springs were the knowledge i gained through my guest. And the journey i am not into is a journey for a stable future . A future -assuming security. A future where nobody will demean me. A journey now, it is not a journey in the future. « return. |
