A young Female and in the age bracket 15 - 35 year of age, educated, jobless and living with HIV in the slum (informal settlement as they call it now)
United Nations say am above the youth age, my country’s constitution defines me as youth………… Dictionaries describe me as formative years, adolescence, early stages, infancy…the list is endless.

What ever the age I am and how ever they call me…….is there a reason for me not to enjoy this time of my life despite the circumstances

If I had an option I would not want to associate myself with this name youth reasons being?

I and many other’s defined as youth form the 75% of my country’s population of which 65% are unemployed yet very educated, with utmost skills to perform at any work situation to achieve both organization and individual goal.

I and many other of my age are exposed and affected with HIV/AIDs, most us are known to be living positively facing up the challenge.

I and many other’s are unemployed since all jobs are taken with people above our defined group who don’t want to rest at home after working and saving all their lives.

I and many other’s defined as youth are living in the informal settlement’s since we don’t have means to afford better housing yet we are here in big cities looking for employment opportunities.

I and many other’s defined are sent to trainings, workshops, outreach and volunteer opportunities to gain more knowledge yet no opportunity offered to practically practice what we learn in actual working environment.

But of course I am young and as they call me YOUTH and I will enjoy being one for many reasons that are countless;

I will as long as I enjoy the energy that I do posses to venture and explore new survival skills that enable me to survive in today’s harsh conditions,

I will as long as my Country and my government that I serve at my capacity recognize that little opportunities are offered to tap the energy that we posses and involve us in their policy making.

I will as long as I join my other collogues to fight HIV/AIDS as they say we are the majority who are infected not realizing that we are the one’s taking the initiatives to visit the VCT centres to know our HIV status giving them an opportunity to use this facts.

I will as long as I access opportunities created and I try with al my knowledge and skills to acquire and make use them.

I will as long as the my energy, psyche, power, wits, force, vigor, mind, intelligence, strength, might, skills and most of all as long as I am Youth continue being who I am and what the world expects of me to my utmost capabilities.

I will as most of my mistakes will be blamed to my family, parents, outbreaks, weather, and environment, economic and social welfare of my country

I will as all my success will be attached and recognized through my efforts, skills and engagements and no other person would take t away from me.

So are you defined as Youth?
Why do you think they gave u that description?
