In this time when there is a lot of effort in bringing development to the African continent, there is the need for the continent of Africa to have a virile leadership. Those that are expected to take the position of leadership in the continent are of course leaders in their own countries.

The New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) has been a forum to gather African leaders who are putting their heads together to chart the so called new course which they hope NEPAD will produce.

This has been a mystery to me considering the fact that these leaders have not been able to chart the development course of their own countries.

It will do the continent well in my view if these leaders go back to their individual countries and address crucial issues like poverty, corruption, disease (HIV and its related cases), educational backwardness, incessant wars, hunger and the rest that are prevalent in the countries of Africa.

NEPAD to me has become another forum where these leaders meet to waste time and just talk, without making any commensurate impact in the African continent. This can be seen in the countries they govern.

African leaders should look inwards and be sincere to themselves as to the kind of development they want for their individual countries before going to the larger body where they have nothing to contribute to the development of the continent.

I think it is time we start acting than talking in Africa.
