Tribute to a martyr There lived a man, a great man
A distinguished scholar, remarkably dignified
And his personality was humble to the core
His main belief which he scrupulously defended
Was the notion which claimed
JUSTICE&FREEDOM WERE VERY FUNDAMENTAL TO LIFE

He pursued his mission honestly, fearlessly& selflessly
He led by example in a disciplined& dedicated manner
He sacrificed his& his family’s own comfort & security
He abandoned a brilliant and successful academic career
All for the liberation of his homeland

Though he was assassinated before his homeland was restored
We must celebrate his life and acknowledge his contribution
Every single time we celebrate our independence in Africa
Tribute to African heroes & martyrs would be incomplete
If PROFESSOR WALTER RODNEY is not remembered.
