The media plays an important role in peace building; the different forms of media can reach out to whole communities all over the world. Peace is a condition or period in which there is no war between two or more nations (state peace), a state of freedom from disorder within an individual or a country (with the citizens) or the world living according to the law and recognition of ones human right, as all human beings are born equal and inalienable rights and fundamental freedoms. Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
Media is a powerful, but untapped, tool for change. They reflected on its ability to educate a wide group of people, provide direction for both adults and young people, and incite people to be involved and active in the global community peace building.
Media and information and technologies contribution to peace building can be positively or negatively. The different forms of information technology play an important role in increasing participation of the world as focused by different groups and organizations in workshops, out-reach activities or school activities to address their public. This media material, whether it's printed, filmed, taped or online, must be developed in a way that people from all ages and backgrounds can identify themselves. Only when they see the real situation in the material will they start to reflect on their own and behavior. Thus forming and changing people’s values and attitudes.
Media would stop stigmatizing people and start a discussion on principles and beliefs we would be making a big steps toward an equal and non-discriminatory society. People stated that the media often misuses its power. Television, newspapers and radio were all criticized for offering stereotypical and often negative representations of people and countries. Such as promotes discrimination, gender inequality, fosters poor self-esteem people, fosters gender inequality and racism and incites violence.
Nowadays media are so focuses to people that are rich; they focus more on the celebrities and war like movies instead of helping the all without violation of anyone’s right. As much as media and information technology is emphasized in development and peace building, most developing countries are left behind due to lack of technology and experts.
What went wrong with the roles of media and information and communication technology in world peace building? The answer is within us as human beings who are naturally different and rational as long as they achieve their selfish goals. It’s then upon the same human beings to restore it, to come up with solutions to world peaceful culture. There is a need to change our attitudes for the good of the present and future generation by focusing on more positive media presentations, have a greater voice and a stronger role to people in the media and take media and Information Communication and Technology as an educational tool for all ages and development.
