Let us stand united
AFTER almost 32 years of independence, we are progressing well but there are still a few hurdles to overcome.
Right now, development seemed to be concentrated in Port Moresby, while the rest of the country is neglected.
We have enough resources and capacity to benefit our communities and tribes.
But we cannot allow foreigners, especially the Australians and New Zealanders, who keep on labeling us as a failed State, fragile and weak, to put us down.
The sad part is that not many of our MPs have done much to counter such biasness and promote our country.
We are still lost in the Pacific Ocean as not many people know where Papua New Guinea is.
And this is where my main concern for the future of PNG lies – our country’s leadership.
We need more honest and better leaders to lead the country, strengthen our constitutional offices and review our commitment with certain hegemonic powers.
The Pacific Island Forum, Melanesian Spearhead Group and others must also be reviewed to see which one truly serves our needs and enable us to develop.
We also need to review our joint defense pact and be careful when we make a commitment to maintain our sovereignty and pride.
It is time to put away regionalism and embrace togetherness as one nation, one people.
