Who is an entrepreneur?
One who uses resources and gains from it, a dreamer, an innovator, a risk taker.
An entrepreneur is first and foremost an individual and that is YOU! It is therefore important to know who “YOU” is if you are going to be an effective entrepreneur. In determining who you are one can adopt the following exercise in self assessment. Create three columns and in column 1 write down a list of what you like to do, in column 2 write down your skills and experiences and in the column 3 write down what others think about you in terms of your skills and general qualities. Column 3 is important as follows: in column 1 one may write that they like talking, in column 3 others may be of the opinion that the person gives good advice or encouragement hence qualifying that characteristic a fact one may easily ignore. Remember that as important as column 3 is You are the only person who knows who You is!
What qualities are required for effective entrepreneurship?
1 Undying drive for achievement- You have to believe in what you do and it is important that you like what you do.
2 Create opportunity- Entrepreneurs are good problem solvers because of their ability to create ideas from situations. Washington Carver an American identified over 400 uses of the peanut! How much more is there to be done in the world?
3 Always be confident- Remember You will be the only creator and destroyer of your dream.
4 Ability to motivate people to your goals- Let other people see your point of view; you are the only one to defend your dream. Nehemiah realised that building the wall was not an impossible task after all, the greatest obstacle was the discouragement of the people.
These are a few guidelines and every entrepreneur will have a few of their own gained from their experiences.
