People think I don't know sadness
That I've never felt pain
Well I know all there is to know
All the rules of this game

Life has handed me sorrow
It's also thrown me shame
And still I keep on smiling
Ignoring my own pain

But when I see the sadness
My mother has in her eyes
I feel the usual anger
Now anger is no surprise

People think I'm happy
Cuz when life throws me down
I keep my face up
And never look to the ground

My life slowly falls apart
But no one will ever know
What I feel deep inside
That I have so much sorrow

People think they know me
But they've never seen me cry
And when I finally fall apart
They will all wonder why

Now things such as this
All the sadness in my life
I've become used to
It's like the feeling of a knife
