The preacher and the drunk Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Odimegwu Onwumere, Nigeria Apr 16, 2007
Culture   Poetry

The preacher had lasted for hours
Preaching the Good News.
The atmosphere was hot.

The drunk walked to the preacher
And said:

Pray for me, man of God.

What the preacher knows best to do,
The preacher stretched his hands in prayers:

I bind the spirit of drunkenness in you.
Receive it! Receive it!! Receive it!!!

As if it was over, but it was not;
The drunk turned to the preacher and said:

I bind the spirit of loquaciousness in you.
Learn how not to disturb people with Christ’s name.

Spectators were entertained.

But many said it was blasphemy.
But who was actually blaspheming?
