To all who care to listen to what we have to say, Tibet is facing a very difficult time in its lifetime, the very essence of her and her cultural heritage is threatened by China which happens to be a member of the United Nations Security Council. The people of Tibet have been held captive by China for years, and what is the UN doing? They are folding their hands in the name of neutrality; why should that be? Is it because China is a Security Council member? Is that why they can’t be sanctioned? Or is it that The UN is just being impartial? The political prisoners from Tibet are taken to Drapchi prison which is known for its poor living conditions, torture and ill treatment by prison officials. These prisoners are often beaten severely and shocked with electric cattle prods. Rape of female prisoners is often common. Now, under the UN’s declaration of fundamental human rights, this is a complete violation of the rights of the Tibetans. Let us not forget that it is this same nations that came together to form this law (human rights law) and yet with all this wicked acts by China the UN says and does nothing. Remember, according to Bishop Desmond Tutu, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” This challenge goes out to the UN to act fast before something else happens to the people of Tibet. Enough is enough, the Tibetans are fed up with this injustice, are they not also humans like us? Why the ill treatment? We can't just sit and watch these people suffer, we all have to do something, and distance is not a barrier, something has to be done.
