In most war torn regions, people become displaced. This is not their choice, but circumstances force them to accept it. The question is, “Does it have to be this way?” and the answer is, "Absolutely not."

Looking at regions around the world ranging from the Middle East to Africa, many get displaced by, and some succumb to, the will of poverty and end up being engulfed by raging wars. It is frustrating when you are not welcome at your final destination. This is not to say that there are no other causes of migration or internal displacement. Search for food and survival instincts often lead to people moving from one place to another amid rejection from other communities.

All over the world, wars are fought. In most cases, they are instigated by our leaders. The need for these wars may be explained in various languages depending on the geographical, religious, and political contexts. Some argue that they fight the wars to route out evil while some believe they are ordained to fight for their people’s rights. Some even go as far as justifying their wars with the argument that it is God who sent them to fight for the good of others.

With all these endless wars, people get confused as to which argument to believe. It gets even worse when those we entrust with leadership commit the most vicious destruction of human lives. It is evident that those who end up suffering are usually those unable to protect themselves. You will, in most cases, see many young and elderly searching for a safe haven only to fall back into the traps of war. Ironically, all this happens when most of the leaders who initiate the wars, enjoy glasses of wine and many other forms of celebration as they gloat over their enemies’ body counts. Never at any given time will they think of those caught up in the destruction.

With increasing fighting and poverty all over the world, only one solution may be the answer. “Tolerance”. When we make each other our friends, then it will a first step to reducing displacement of people. Many organizations will be formed to deal with this issue but without love amongst us, then all the efforts will be drained into the sea.

Love and tolerance are the best antidote to the issue of forced migration due to war, and with that we shall save many generations to come.
