AM A SLAVE Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION
by Ositadimma Amakeze, Nigeria Feb 8, 2006
Poverty   Poetry

To the time and tide
And of its ripples and waves
That sweeps our ocean of being
Within walls of our cosmic ball

I am a slave in chains
Rowing aloft in uncertainties
Like a vessel blown off course
More pain and less joy

These bawling and sorrowful tears
Streaming from the womb of the streets
Are my shackles and chains
The bondage of a slave!

Enslaved for you, O Humanity!
Many an odd, the brutish stabs
There in my melting heart
As you fade into shadows

Misery, my miserable soul
Wouldn’t you were without woes
My realm would unto like the bird’s
In the horizon of liberty
